High tech meets Ecology in the Hori River
Join us in "Hori-kawa Eco-Robot Contest", which will find great possibility that everyonefs dream and high tech can create to revive the Hori River. You can express your hope for the Hori River through the pleasure of "production". Nagoya Institute of Technology that leads the world in various advanced technology research will totally support and offer the know-how to create robots. Moreover, Nagoya Hori-Kawa Lions Club will coordinate this contest.
Give Your Wisdom and Passion for "Production" to the Hori River of expressiveness
We got to know from the survey carried out by the 1000-people Hori-kawa investigating party that the Hori River has complex feature. In order to purify this river and to make it a place for relaxation, the wisdom and various ideas of the citizens who love and know well the Hori River are essential. We investigate what eco-robot is necessary for the whole area of the Hori River of 16.2 km, and then produce robots and operate them in the Hori. "Hori-kawa Eco-Robot Contest" will be a great "production" occasion for everyone from children to adults and from amateurs to specialists to realize our dreams.
Organized by Nagoya Institute of Technology/ Nagoya Hori-kawa Lions Club
A: Hey, I heard that "Hori-kawa Eco-Robot Contest" will be held nest summer. Do you know what it is like?
B: It seems that the concept of that contest is to purify the Hori by producing ecological robots that take the environment of the Hori into account.
A: Come on! Making robots is so professional that everyone cannot get down to it.
B: Donft worry. When it comes to robots, we imagine "Astro-boy" that has arms and legs and do everything on his own. But you should take robots in a broad sense for this contest. A robot powered by a spring, wind-power, or hydraulic power, and a robot without arms and legs etc. will be O.K.
A: I seec but it is still complicated.
C: For example, how about a robot which purifies the Hori by its waterwheel made by putting plastic bottles together?
B: Thatfs a good idea. Itfs exactly a robot using waterpower.
A: Well, I see. I feel like thinking of some ideas.
C: Then, we can make something, canft we? Letfs take part in that contest.
A, B: Sure!

ŸThese are their illustrative plansc@Of course, full-scale robots are welcome.

D: Everyone, do you have any good ideas to show off our technology to the public?
E: President, we are going to have "Hori-kawa Eco-Robot Contest" next summer. I suggest that we should use our advanced water-purification technique to meke a Robot and take part in it.
D: Whatfs that eco-robot something or other?
E: A contest of robots to clean up the Hori River. It seems that lots of people will come to the contest, so it will be great opportunity for publicity. Moreover, it can bring a big business chance.
D: That sounds interesting. O.K, you are in charge and go ahead with the plan.
E: I wonft let you down.

Eco-Robot required for the Hori River
A robot that is able to improve the environment of the Hori River, for example, robot to collect trash, "No Dumping" robot, robot to improve water quality and to investigate water, robot to eliminate and decompose slime, tourist guide robot, robot to attract birds and fish, robot to promote greenery, and so on. We look forward to elaborated ideas.
For technical problems, Nagoya Institute of Technology will support with the most advanced techniques of various fields. Nagoya Hori-kawa Lions Club will have an explanatory meeting about what eco-robot is necessary for the Hori River.
